Asia Argento was raised in Rome by a filmmaker as well as an actor family. Both professions she pursued her own. When she was nine, Asia Argento made her acting debut in Sergio Cittis's Sogni e bisogni. In 1988 she had the lead role in Cristina Comencini's first film, Zoo (1988), and also was in the ensemble of The Church (1989), directed by Michele Soavi. Close Friends (written and directed by Michele Placido) was when Asia's acting career began to take off. The roles she played changed from being very young before becoming more mature. Her mother, Daria Nicoledi is Argento's favourite actress. in Trauma she portrayed an anorexic looking for the killer of her parents. The Phantom of the Opera is her third movie with her Father, her first two movies being Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Asia's absorbed and intense approach to acting was also utilized in the film by Giuseppe Piccioni in Condannato a Nozze. Patrice Chereau directed Queen Margot as well. She also had the role of the physically challenged girl in the film. Her 1995 collaboration together with Michel Piccoli, in Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion won her yet another award, this time the David di Donatello and Grolla di Oro. In 1994, Asia decided to try her hand at directing and turned out two short films: Prospettive in 1996, she directed a documentary on her father. In 1998, a film about the cult director Abel Ferrara, Abel/Asia (1998) that was awarded an award at the Rome Film Festival. Asia's feature-length debut was Scarlet Diva (2000) in 1999. She also acted as the lead actress as well as wrote the screenplay. The film premiered on 20 May the 20th of May, 2000 in Italy along with the rest of world. It was also released in Brooklyn, New York it received an award from the Williamsburg film festival. Anna Lou, her first child was born to her in 2001. She has directed numerous music videos.
